What’s in them, then?
Condoms often contain animal-derived substances. Huh? You might be wondering why. We investigated what’s in them and if there are alternatives!
Contraception can sometimes become a whole study. Because we love sex, but not so much the junk in our bodies. There are various methods for safe sex, and using condoms is one of them. But did you know that condoms very often are not vegan at all?
Dairy in condoms
How is that possible? Casein is often added to latex, which is a byproduct of dairy. Besides the fact that you can be seriously allergic to it, it’s also an animal product.
Don’t immediately switch to another method, as most birth control pills contain gelatin (which is made from pig slaughter waste). Thanks but no thanks. You can still use condoms. Vegan condoms.
Vegan condoms!
Yep, you read that right. Vegan condoms do exist! From various brands, in different sizes, colors, and flavors. Even in unicorn packaging. Completely free of animal ingredients and often also free of parabens, gluten, petrochemicals, and added chemicals. How do they do that? With thistle extract, for example. Or with ecological natural latex.
Which brands should you look for? The following brands offer vegan condoms and are available at for example the Condomerie:
- Glyde
- Einhorn
- Profil
- ESP
- Fair Squared
- Size
You’re welcome and have fun!
