Why Should I Drink Celery Juice?

Celery Juice Hype

When you scroll through Instagram, you can hardly avoid it: celery juice is a trend!

The first time I read about celery was in the book Medical Medium by Anthony Williams. Then it reappeared in his other book Liver Rescue (both books are real recommendations if you’re interested in nutrition and health!) and suddenly, I saw on social media people everywhere with a celery juice. Apparently, it does something good, so should we also start drinking it?

What Do We Know About Celery?

Celery contains, among other things: vitamins A, C, K, B vitamins, beta-carotene (converted into vitamin A), phytonutrients, and minerals such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, manganese, and phosphorus.

Studies show that:

  • Celery has a powerful antioxidant activity to remove free radicals.[1]
  • Celery is a natural diuretic and thus removes fluid from the body. In this way, it can also help lower blood pressure.[2]
  • Celery also contains nitrate, which contributes to the widening of blood vessels and oxygen supply, whereby blood pressure can also be lowered.[3]
  • In rats, they see that celery can help reduce oxidative stress.[4]
  • And in one study in rats, they see improvement in gut function.[5]

How Does Celery Juice Work?

Anthony explains that celery contains sodium (salt) clusters that bind to pathogens in our body and help to eliminate them. In this way, celery contributes to the detoxification of the body. The sodium salts also influence stomach juices, allowing all other food you eat afterward to be better digested. Not many studies have been done on the effects of celery juice. Nonetheless, there are known positive effects of celery. Additionally, millions of people worldwide already experience the effects of adding this juice to their healthy diet. From clearer skin, better digestion, less bloating, more stable energy, and clearer thinking to various chronic and acute conditions, such as migraines, autoimmune diseases, psoriasis, and high blood pressure. Just to name a few… It almost sounds too good to be true! And secretly also too easy. A bunch of celery every day and no luxury pills or superfoods, that even fits into a low-budget diet.

How to Benefit from the Advantages of Celery Juice?

Drink at least 0.5 liters on an empty stomach in the morning (and possibly another glass in the afternoon). Fresh juice without being mixed with other vegetables, fruits, or water.

How Is It Really?

At first, you need to get used to the taste! Celery tastes slightly salty, sometimes a bit bitter, sometimes a bit sweet. Now, I (Tessa) am used to a super green juice, so this is not too bad for me. After drinking celery juice a few times, I even find it almost delicious! Cleaning the juicer every day is a chore, but otherwise, drinking celery juice feels good. I can’t yet share a mega transformation story because I haven’t been drinking it long enough and not consistently enough. But I’ll keep you posted!
