Unprocessed and cruelty free
If you are serious about the vegan lifestyle and want to avoid animal suffering in your food as much as possible, you will want to read this. We totally understand that you don’t eat 100% fresh and unprocessed foods. We also regularly eat cakes, stroopwafels, and convenient meat substitutes. Now, some of those processed products contain E-numbers that are not vegan at all! For example, they are made from gelatin or even insect blood (yuk!).
These E-numbers are made from animals:
– E120, made from insect blood and used as a dye.
– E441, gelatin.
– E472, often consists of animal fat.
– E542, bone phosphate.
– E640, made from slaughterhouse waste and gelatin. Also known as glycine.
– E901, beeswax.
– E904, a material obtained from the secretion of certain lice (shellac).
– E913, also known as lanolin and is a waxy substance obtained from sheep’s wool.
– E966, also known as lactitol and is made from milk sugar (lactose).
– E1105, Lysozyme is an enzyme naturally found in saliva, tears, blood, and (mother’s) milk.
