Really, go to the harbor in Leiden and settle down on one of the benches (full of cushions) at Lot & de Walvis. What a nice spot this is. It is atmospherically decorated with lots of plants, flowers, nice chairs & a chill spot with a turntable. Everywhere you look, you see something! They even have a water bar here where you can tap water with fresh fruit! Outside on the terrace, you overlook the harbor, which is wonderful in the summer. We were there with some rain, not a problem, because sitting inside is no punishment at Lot!
The menu
The menu is very varied. Everything can be prepared vegan, and that makes us very happy. They have been considering vegan options on the menu for a while, and after our visit, that’s likely to happen too. So exciting!
We got to taste everything, a real treat of course! The table was full of delicious things. A pea/mint soup, a salad of yellow beet, tomatoes & roasted pecans, a pokebowl, and a sandwich with baba ganoush, blanched asparagus, eggplant, sweet and sour pumpkin. We can’t say what our absolute favorite was, everything really! So that says enough, right ;)?
We finished the meal with watermelon and cava. A top combination and definitely a recommendation in the summer! Fortunately, we didn’t have to go back to the office afterward, hehe.
Ask for vegan!
As we mentioned, there are no special vegan dishes on the menu just yet. But they are working hard on it, so keep asking! This is really the best spot. Everything is just right, and that makes us incredibly happy! The interior is atmospheric, the food tastes good, the service is cheerful & the location is so nice by the water.
