In August, Amsterdam has gained a new healthy hotspot. In Amsterdam (East) you can find this cozy and especially snug little restaurant on a very charming street. As you arrive by bike, you’ll already see cheerful flowers on the picnic tables and atmospheric lights hanging around. A warm welcome, we think. But inside, it’s also incredibly well-decorated. You can already see it a bit in the photos, but the atmosphere is a bit different than usual. There are cushions on the benches, beautiful marble tables, a large bar in an oriental style, and the staff is always cheerful. Thinking there’s little space upstairs? Then you can go downstairs where there is also an atmospheric space set up with a view of the open kitchen! Hello Mr. & Mrs. Watson, we’re excited for a delicious dinner!
We can guarantee you won’t regret a meal here. Because they have such delicious dishes. It’s always fun to discover a place in Amsterdam that’s different from an average little restaurant. Plus, everything is vegan.
Dishes you can find on the menu include delicious spelt pancakes with a compote of pear and black currants (see photo). But also the (well-known) vegan cheese platter. This is absolutely a favorite that we always order! When you eat this, you really feel like you’re eating cheese, it tastes so good! It’s served with tasty bread, fig bread & olives. Furthermore, you can also enjoy vegan cheese fondue or a sloppy vegan bun (pulled jack fruit in bbq sauce, on a rosemary-sea salt bun with chili mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, coleslaw & fries). And if you want to have lunch, that’s also possible. Even having a drink or a nice cup of coffee with oat milk is already a recommendation! Exciting news, they are now busy with a new menu. Summer is around the corner, so it was high time to come up with new dishes.
And if you become a fan of the vegan cheese platter after a meal, you can always call to order a piece of cheese.

What’s also fun to mention is that the name Watson is derived from Donald Watson. He introduced the word ‘veganism’ in 1944. We’re glad about that! The founders of this restaurant are two friends who share a common passion, namely plant-based eating. They decided to start a restaurant to introduce the public to plant-based eating and especially to show what all is possible and how tasty it is!
They open every day at 11:30 AM. Also a perfect spot for a drink or a healthy lunch. And soon with the sunshine, you can also take a seat at 2 large picnic tables!
